Big Rail Diversity Challenge
Launched in 2016, The Big Rail Diversity Challenge has adopted the apt tagline: ‘Where Krypton Factor meets It’s a Knockout’. The event hosts over 500 rail industry colleges, in teams made up of both males and females, competing in a series of mental, physical and skill based challenges promoting the business benefits attained when engaging a gender diverse workforce.
The event is suitable for all abilities and provides participants with the opportunity to network, team build and fundraise, whilst completing a series of fun gender-balanced team activities promoting Women in Rail’s key message: Gender Diversity: Better for People Better for Business Better for Rail.
The Women in Rail Awards
The first awards marked the fifth anniversary of the official launch of the Women in Rail group, showcasing and rewarding individuals and companies (large and small) who make a significant contribution to improving diversity and gender balance within the UK rail workforce. The Women in Rail Awards is the latest event to the Nimble Media Events operations and took place on 19 April at the Underglobe in London. The event received over 300 entries and sold out in just 8 weeks.
The award submissions were judged by some of the rail industries most senior professionals to include Sir Peter Hendy, Chairman Network Rail, Clair Mowbray, CEO of the National College for High Speed Rail, Paul Plummer, CEO of the Rail Delivery Group and Karen Boswell OBE, Managing Director of Hitachi to name a few.
The Steam Special
In June 2015, Nimble Media delivered a special event to commemorate 20 years of excellence for the international charity, The Railway Children – aptly titled, ‘The Steam Special’. As a complete sell-out, all 226 guests aboard the Belmond British Pullman Venice-Simplon-Orient-Express enjoyed a once in a lifetime experience with rousing performances from a variety of well-known acts, including: Scotland’s finest bag-rock band ‘The Red Hot Chilli Pipers’. As the evening drew to a close – the River Thames was closed to mariners as the guests paused on the Grosvenor Bridge to witness a first-class firework display, delivered by the 2012 Olympics pyrotechnics team.
A staggering £283,000 was raised for our chosen charity, Railway Children.
An exclusive event which was established to ‘recognise industry excellence’ and reward those organisations (both large and small) that have made a significant contribution to the effective and efficient running of the UK’s heavy and abnormal load industry. The Heavies was launched in March 2015 and honours the achievements of industry operators, escorts, leading figures, manufacturers and suppliers; recognising innovation, outstanding service, efficiency and quality within the sector. This annual awards gala dinner takes place surrounded by some of the very vehicles that keep the industry’s wheels in motion. Delivered by Nimble Media on behalf of HeavyTorque magazine.
